Reaching for toy.
I am going to brag a little here over Maddie. This video depicts something she has started doing in the last few days: controlled reaching for objects. Notice in the video she looks directly at the dangling toy, considers it, and makes a very controlled (as controlled as her motor skills will allow) reach for the object to spin the blue pinwheel (as much as it will spin, the pinwheel isn’t very good).
… she is 6 weeks old!
Spatial awareness and consideration, along with the ability to gauge distances, and also bat at / grab for dangling objects is a milestone listed in parenting guides as something occurring at 3 – 4months of age. Also in this time span is the ability to track moving objects, something she regularly does as well. So you can imagine our surprise and elation when she started doing these things at 6 weeks!
